With all the rain we have received Edmonds' yards, trees and flowers are at peak beauty. It's time to take a few moments out of our busy schedules and recognize those residents who go to the extra work and effort on their yards to truly make Edmond Beautiful. Gardening and yard work is the passion for many Edmond residents and this time of the year countless hours are spent planting flowers and preparing attractive yards that our city is noted for "Yard of the Week" contest acknowledges and rewards them for their hard work and dedication that everyone enjoys, who gets the opportunity to see Edmonds' beautiful yards.
The contest begins today and runs to Labor Day, Edmond Beautiful Inc., The Edmond Sun, the Edmond Chamber of Commerce and The Home Depot co-sponsor the "Yard of the Week".The contest is designed to encourage residents to make their yards more attractive, and to recognize a few of those who do. Residents may nominate their own yard or those within the city limits of Edmond. A Yard can win only once a year, but nominated yards remain in consideration all summer.
Each week, a member of Edmond Beautiful Inc., judges nominated yards on Sunday evening when they are in peak neatness on the basis of landscaping design, overall neatness and appearance, use of color and effort required. Only yards visible from city streets are eligible. Equal consideration is given to all nominated yards, whether professionally landscaped, rural estates or attractively designed and well-kept small yards in older neighborhoods.
A special classical designed "Edmond Yard of the Week" sign designed by Vital Signs with the Edmond Beautiful logo on it, is placed in the winning yard. A photograph of the award residents and prize winning yard is featured in The Edmond Sun's Home and Garden page each Friday with the first winner to be announced June 12th. The winner also receives a free six-month subscription to the Edmond Sun. In addition, they receive a $50 store credit from The Home Depot.
So keep a harp lookout fro the most beautiful and well-kept yards. Then take a moment out of your busy schedule and call the Edmond Chamber of Commerce at 341-2808 to nominate a deserving yard. Each nomination should include address and nominated resident's name, housing addition and telephone number, if known. With everyone having a cell phone, take the time to make the call when you see that special yard and give recognition, where recognition is due. Some times the most beautiful yards go unrewarded because no one took a moment to nominate. Let's all make this program a big success and recognize those residents that truly make Edmond Beautiful |
